You might be wondering about the floor sanding process we use when refurbishing hardwood floors. With our expert team and professional equipment, there’s no one more qualified for the job. Keep reading to find out more about the floor sanding process and why you might want to consider refurbishing your floor.
Why should you renovate your floor?
Whether you’re renovating your whole home, or just want to give your hardwood floor a fresh look, floor sanding could be the solution for you! Hardwood flooring is extremely durable, however, it can fade and become damaged over time. Floor sanding strips back the surface of the wood, removing any scratches or imperfections that may have appeared over the years.
You may not think it’s worth sanding your floor as part of your restoration project, but we would urge you to reconsider. A freshly renovated floor can transform the whole room! As well as this, you can customise the stain and finish of the wood to complement your new decor. For example, a whitewashed floor could accompany a beach-inspired home.
What is the floor sanding process?
Floor sanding takes just three days for our team to complete. We are a professional, experienced team who can efficiently transform your floor with top-quality results.
The process begins by using specialised machinery to abrade the floor. A range of sandpaper will be used to remove any scratches and create a smooth finish. Typically, a 40-grit sandpaper will be used to begin with, to make sure all imperfections are removed from the surface. Various grits will be used, usually finishing with a 120-grit sandpaper to make sure the surface is as smooth as possible. The higher the grit, the finer the grain of the sandpaper, and the smoother the finish it will produce.
Once the floor has been completely sanded, it’s time to think about staining the wood. You can choose from a range of colours, it’s totally up to you! Some of the wood stains you can choose from include: Natural wood, Victorian pine, antique pine, walnut, teak, black, light/medium/dark/golden oak, rosewood or whitewash (lightens the wood). You could also customise the finish – whether you want a glossy varnish or a matte finish, the choice is yours!
Two coats of lacquer will be applied to protect the surface of the wood, sealing in the stain and helping the floor to last for many more years to come. There’s no need to worry about dust, we use expert dust-extraction technology to collect any dust particles from the floor sanding process. We use this sawdust to power our workshop, so nothing goes to waste!

‘We have had two rooms sanded now. Very pleased with the process and the results. Operative was a very helpful and friendly guy. I was sceptical about the dust free claims having used a belt sander years ago, but it really was. Would recommend.’
‘Absolutely amazing service. All of the men working for Ryan’s were polite, professional and courteous (one even spotted me coming down the street with my shopping and insisted on carrying it for me!). The floors they re-sanded look absolutely incredible and the communication during the job was really, really good.’
