Floor Sanding in Porlock
We bring the full wood floor sanding service to Porlock, Porlock Weir, Allerford, Selworthy, Luccombe and Wootton Courtenay, grouping the work with our Minehead and coast runs from the Wellington workshop. Family-run and with over 45 years’ experience, we use compact machines that suit cottage rooms and the narrow access off the High Street.
The wide elm and pine boards in the village’s older cottages are denser and better seasoned than anything on sale today, so restoring them nearly always beats replacing them. Old timber gets a gentler grit sequence, and the soft ripples of two centuries of wear stay where they belong.
Flat is not the goal on a floor like this; sound and clean is. A cottage floor that has settled for two hundred years undulates, and chasing every hollow with a coarse belt would eat half the remaining timber. Instead we follow the surface, running the machine with the grain and letting the abrasive take the finish and the grime rather than reshaping the boards. The result keeps its gentle waves underfoot but presents fresh, sealed timber on top.
Practical preparation is shared out simply. The household clears ornaments, books and anything that can be carried; we deal with the heavy pieces as agreed at the survey, along with lifting carpet and gripper, pulling staples and punching every nail down before the first pass. Machines break down to fit through narrow cottage doors and up tight stairs, which is one reason we favour compact equipment on this coast.
