We also sequence the house sensibly when people are living in it. Bedrooms might be done first so they are back in use by nightfall, or the hallway left until last so there is always a way through. Small furniture and breakables are best moved by the household before we arrive; the rest we plan together at the survey.

Residue left under a re-fixed block stops modern adhesive gripping, so every lifted block is scraped clean and the subfloor beneath checked for damp before anything is glued back. Once the field is solid, the joints across the whole pattern are filled with resin blended with sanding dust, then cut back in the final passes so the hundreds of individual blocks finish as a single level surface.

Sheltered period interiors suit hardwax oiling, which breathes and repairs in patches. Staining and traditional waxing are both available, with trial patches on your own boards first.

Sea air slows drying, so on the coast we allow for it rather than fight it. Coats go on earlier in the day, ventilation is managed so air moves without carrying moisture straight off the Channel onto wet lacquer, and we never stack coats faster than the product can take. There is also a difference between walking on a floor and living on it: light traffic may be fine next morning, but rugs, mats and heavy furniture wait until the finish has fully hardened, and we give you those dates in writing for the exact product used.
