Where a floor has dished across its width we take the first cuts at a slight diagonal to the grain, which shears the high edges off efficiently, then straighten up and work along the boards through the finer grades. It takes an extra pass, but it is the difference between a genuinely flat floor and one that still ripples in low light.

We also measure before we machine anything. A probe moisture meter tells us whether the boards are dry enough to sand and seal, and on previously sanded floors we check the depth remaining above the tongue, because a board can only give up so much timber in its lifetime. Both readings feed into the fixed written quotation, so nothing changes once work is under way.

Wood Floor Repairs and Squeak Elimination

Repair work comes first on most Poole floors. Neither answer is wrong — it depends on how much upkeep you want to own.

We are just as careful about what happens after the last coat. Light use is fine surprisingly soon, but finishes keep hardening for days, so we leave written guidance on when rugs can go down, when felt pads go under furniture legs, and which cleaning products will not strip the new surface.
