Floor Sanding in Weymouth
Our wood floor sanding service runs right across Weymouth — Rodwell, Wyke Regis, Radipole, Preston, Littlemoor and Chickerell as well as the seafront — taking worn pine, oak and parquet back to fresh timber and building up a new finish coat by coat. As a family business with over 45 years behind the machines, we sand everything from Georgian Esplanade boards, which we measure for remaining thickness before starting, to modern engineered oak.
Moisture readings come first on this stretch of coast; where a floor is not ready for machines, or simply does not need them, we offer restoration without sanding as the gentler route.
Day one is mostly preparation. Old carpet, underlay, gripper rods and staples come up, protruding fixings are dealt with, and skirtings, doorways and built-in furniture are masked and protected before a machine is switched on. Good preparation is invisible in the finished floor; poor preparation never is.
The last cut matters as much as the first. Once the heavy machines have done their work we go over the whole floor with a fine screen on a rotary machine, which blends the field and the edges together and removes the faint transitions an edger can leave behind. It is a small step that shows in the final result, particularly on floors due to be stained, where any stray scratch takes colour more deeply than the wood around it.
