Access, Steep Streets and Timing

Fowey is genuinely difficult to work in. Narrow streets, several that are steps rather than roads, restricted parking, and a summer season when bringing machinery into the town is close to impossible.

Estuary Damp and Empty Winters

Fowey sits on a deep tidal estuary and the humidity almost never drops. Older waterside property frequently has sub-floor voids that no longer breathe, and in the steepest houses a back room cut into the hillside brings moisture through the retaining wall.

Second homes add a second problem. A house left cold, closed and unventilated from October to Easter swings in humidity, so boards cup and gap and finishes suffer at the edges.

We take moisture readings before quoting and we will not sand a wet floor. Where the cause is ventilation the fix is cheap. Where it is a retaining wall it is a bigger conversation, and one worth having before you pay for a floor.

In an old building with lime plaster, exposed beams and a steep winding stair that is not optional. Fine dust settles into every joint and lime plaster does not take kindly to being scrubbed.

We sheet doorways, protect what stays in the room and clean as we go. Where you live away from the property we send photographs of the finished work and can deal with your managing agent directly.
