Timber riddled with old worm flight holes deep through its thickness, boards reduced to a veneer by repeated past sandings, or anything with soft rot underfoot should come out. Because our replacement stock is reclaimed rather than new, the swap rarely announces itself once the floor is sanded and sealed.

Our gap filling work uses solid timber slivers in wider gaps, which is our preference in older property because the boards still move with the seasons, or a resin and dust mix for narrower joints that colour-matches the surrounding floor exactly.

Filling happens after the first sanding cut, not before, because the dust we collect at that stage comes from your own boards and gives the resin an exact colour match. Slivers are cut fractionally over-width, glued on both faces and tapped home, then planed off flush during the following pass. Done in that order, the fill and the floor are sanded and sealed as one surface rather than the fill sitting on top of a finished floor.

Staining is the stage where patience pays. Timber species take colour differently, and even boards within the same room can vary, so we apply trial patches in an out-of-the-way corner and let you live with them for a day before anything is committed. We will also talk through sheen: matt and satin finishes hide small marks and suit uneven old timber, while higher gloss reflects more light but shows every dent. Good ventilation during coating shortens drying times, and we set that up as part of the job rather than leaving windows to chance.
